Ukraine news LIVE – Queen sends message to Ukrainians on anniversary of Russia’s brutal invasion

HER MAJESTY the Queen issued strong, emotional words of encouragement for Ukrainians, on their major Independence Day.

The 24 August marked Ukraine’s Independence Day, but also the day of the six month anniversary since Russia launched the bloodthirsty attack on the nation.

To mark this crucial day in Ukraine’s history, the Queen has provided Ukraine with words of support.

“It gives me great pleasure to send Your Excellency and the people of Ukraine my warmest greetings on the celebration of your Independence Day.

“In this most challenging year, I hope that today will be a time for the Ukrainian people, both in Ukraine and around the world, to celebrate their culture, history and identity.

“May we look to better times in the future.

Today, Prime Minister Boris Johnson made a surprise visit to Kyiv, announcing: “What happens in Ukraine matters to us all, which is why I am here today to deliver the message that the United Kingdom is with you and will be with you for the days and months ahead, and you can and will win.”

The UK has also pledged a further £54 million worth of aid, including military munitions and weapons.
