Say It With Me: Egg-in-a-Hole Is the New Bag Trend Making It Big

Here at Who What Wear, we love coining funky trend names. From croissant bags to floss heels, there is really no limit to our naming game, and in case you haven’t already guessed, we have one more up our sleeves. Say it with me: egg-in-a-hole. Egg-in-a-hole bags are the new bag trend that is about to make it big this spring and summer and last through fall 2020 as well. This new bag shape looks exactly as it sounds—like your bag has an egg-shaped hole cut out of the middle of it. This negative space is used as the handle in all cases, but the overall styles that we’ve seen so far are quite different.

Today, we’re going to share with you all that we know so far about this egg-in-a-hole handbag trend by listing out the brands that are carving the path for this new style, including Coperni, Staud, and A.W.A.K.E Mode, just to name a few. Follow along as we walk you through this obscure new trend that we firmly believe is destined for sartorial fame.

Coperni is one of the leading brands in this obscure bag space. Its sculptural, egg-like handbags were spotted on the street style scene all throughout fashion month, particularly in snake print. While that bag isn’t available at this exact moment, the below solid colors are, and they are just as good.

Carolina Santo Domingo’s egg-shaped shoulder bags are so new we have yet to spot them on the arms of It girls and influencers, but surely in no time at all this bag will be one of the most coveted styles of the year.

A.W.A.K.E Mode’s bags literally look like a little egg was shoved inside these puffy carryalls. Everything from the squishy texture to the mini egg shape in the middle makes these quite a standout among the bubbling trend. We’re particularly excited for the zebra one coming out in fall, so be sure to preorder it before it’s too late.

Danse Lente is taking this handbag trend and running with it for the season ahead. This particular new style, equipped with both mock crock and raffia, is dropping this fall, but we wanted to show it to you anyway. And if you enjoy preordering products, this is the time to do it because if we know trends like we think we know trends, this one is going to be pretty prevalent come fall.

Ah, the Staud Moon Bag. We’ve loved this bag since its arrival in June 2019 but honestly didn’t know what its shelf life would be. Now, seeing this egg-in-a-hole handbag trend surface, its quirky shape and structure are making a lot more sense, and so is its longevity.

These Nanuhska bags are also only available for preorder (sorry for all the disappointments on the shopping front), but this is another handbag we’re anticipating will be a big deal come fall 2020. Considering the overwhelmingly positive responses to the brand’s presentation in Paris this past fashion week, it’s safe to assume all things Nanushka will be in high demand in just a few months’ time.

Last but not least, Bottega Veneta. This bag has less of a structured egg shape and more of a squishy one. Women carried this lustrous leather handbag all throughout fashion month in every color in the book. This newer shape is an extension of the ever-popular pouch bag that initially put Bottega back on the map, so there is no questioning the pending fame of its successor.
