Kate Middleton Walked the BAFTAs Red Carpet In a Very Familiar Gown

While historically award shows have been all about finding the newest and most-coveted look, this year the BAFTAs encouraged attendees to think a little more sustainably.

According to The Independent, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts is striving to make the event a carbon-neutral awards ceremony and therefore asked its guests to think about either rewearing an outfit they already owned or hiring an ensemble, instead of buying something completely new.

Evidently, Kate Middleton got the memo, as the Duchess of Cambridge arrived on the red carpet wearing a gown by Alexander McQueen which she had previously worn to a royal tour in 2012.

The white McQueen gown featured elaborate gold detailing, a sweetheart neckline and short sleeves. For this event, Kate chose to style the gown alongside a sophisticated up-do hairstyle and paired the dress with a tiered necklace.  This was an interesting way to make the dress feel new again, as when the Duchess of Cambridge wore the gown in 2012 for an official dinner hosted by Malaysia’s Head of State she chose to wear her hair in a half-up hairstyle.
