I’m in a Relationship With Basic Black Boots—Here Are My 6 Go-To Outfits

I pretty much have a few go-to essentials I live in during the fall months. What tops the list? Well, for starters, black hoodies, turtleneck sweaters, skinny jeans, blazers, moto jackets, and trusty (albeit basic) black boots. TBH, I’m basically in a relationship with the latter. I adore them so much they make up half of my shoe closet. And okay, yes, I know there’s a plethora of statement-making booties out there in the universe, but it’s the simple, understated silhouettes that always find a home on my hooves. Why? Well, it might seem obvious, but the classic nature of the silhouette (aka the lack of frills and embellishments) means they can be worn with literally anything in my wardrobe.

On that note, there are actually a few outfit formulas I turn to the most with my go-to boots. Believe it or not, others in the fashion crowd seem to be on the same page, as they too step out in similar ‘fits with their booties.

So without further ado, here are six flawless black-boot outfits (courtesy of some of my favorite style setters) to consider if you also swear by the timeless shoe silhouette. And of course, I also shopped out each look to give you even further styling inspiration.

This is basically my go-to when I want a polished fit that also feels laid-back. Seriously—incorporate a blazer into any look and you’ll appear so sophisticated.

A longline overcoat mixed with sleek trousers and those no-fail black boots is elevated without trying too hard.

Yes, I love classic skinny jeans, but I’ve also been leaning into utility pants these days as a cool way to mix it up. These work flawlessly with a coordinating knit and flat black boots.

While boots might not be the first thing that comes to mind when wearing a suit (pumps or oxfords likely pop up first), slouchy tailoring actually looks quite forward paired with either flat or heeled black boots.

Toss a trench coat over any of your fall outfits for a classic yet still modern vibe. I’m personally a fan of teaming one with distressed jeans and chunkier black boots for a very-right-now feel.

Say hello to one of my top fall uniforms. You legit can’t go wrong with a moto jacket, skinny jeans, and boots. The combo always works.
