25 Items I’m Buying to Complete My “Adult” Wardrobe

Most Wanted is a weekly series in which one Who What Wear team member or friend of the brand will share the top 25 fashion and beauty finds on their current wish list.

It was about a year ago on my 25th birthday when I realized two things: first, oh shit I’m not in my early twenties anymore and second, I better start dressing like it. I immediately Marie Kondo’d my closet, tossing old college formal dresses and too cropped crop tops and just like that I felt like a real adult. Since then, I’ve been transforming my wardrobe each season with elevated basics, tailored essentials (because I do in fact have a big girl office job), and a sprinkle of statement pieces for good measure.

This season in particular was all about overhauling my SoCal wardrobe with coats, turtlenecks, and heattech to boot to become more NYC-appropriate after moving across coasts. As it’s still very much winter in New York City, I’m thinking it’s time I finally take the plunge on my most wanted cold-weather items as well as some newer transitional pieces I can wear now and when the temps rise. I have to keep my hopes up for spring somehow, right? So, without further ado I offer you the top twenty-five items on my wish list right now, all adult-wardrobe approved.

I’m convinced there’s a direct correlation between a person’s age and the number of button downs in his or her closet. I’m always here for a puffy sleeve blouse though, so this particular button down is a must.

Frankie Shop always comes through with stylish oversize blazers. This deep olive colored one offers a nice break from go-to black and navy options.

This cardigan is the elevated basic I didn’t know I needed. It’s perfect to wear from September to at least April making the cost per wear extremely low.

These black jeans are cooler than any other pair I already own and that’s really all the reason I need to make the purchase. Oh, and the fact that Agolde jeans fit so well.

My grandmother wears pearls all the time, and don’t get me wrong they are gorgeous and classic in all the right ways, but I’m really into more modern styles like this gold hoop earrings.

Another western-inspired item that feels less “let’s go to a rodeo” and more “let’s go hang out at the Hadid’s upstate New York farm.”

Here’s proof that polka dots really can work for evening wear.

The shape of this bag feels very “adult” and the mint shade puts a big smile on my face.

These chic trousers are almost as comfy as sweatpants. Almost.

The color combo of this plaid wool jacket is so fun—I can’t wait to wear it with black skinny jeans or leather pants.

My going out tops looks much different than they did a few years ago. I currently look for polished tanks that aren’t overly revealing to wear under leather jackets and blazers.

The horsebit detail on this blazer makes this blazer so unique. I’m all about an equestrian vibe.

This cropped cardigan is so affordable I’m not even thinking twice about buying it. Wear it open over a dress or closed with jeans—you really can’t go wrong.

This pair of Levi’s is my favorite for two reason: the fit and the price point. Enough said.

I’ve noticed all the cool ways Hailey Bieber styles baseball caps with polished trousers or blazers and I’m officially going to start incorporating this look into my routine too.

I have this bodysuit in black and get so many compliments on it that I think it’s time I get the white one too.

I love that the patchwork-print of this sweatshirt really works for winter and spring (and that it’s much more appropriate than wearing ones with my university on it). And yes, I also need the matching scrunchie.

This Australian brand makes the best linen pieces for warm weather. It’s great to have a dress like this on hand for bridal showers, Sunday brunches, and last minute vacations.

These little sandals instantly elevate every denim and t-shirt outfit.

The Range never fails to come through with basics featuring subtle details that make them not all that basic (am I making any sense?). These trousers are a good place to start.

I’m not saying string bikinis are juvenile but I do think it’s about time I invest in a more elevated style. This one shoulder glitter top with matching bikini bottoms feels modern and chic all at the same time.

I’m a sucker for a mini bag and this one can only be described as adorable.

I’ve been drooling over this cozy off-duty coat for months and think it’s time to finally take the plunge.

These “fancy” flip flops are perfect for beach vacations but I also might try to get away with wearing these on a casual Friday at the office.

A casual little black dress is just as much a wardrobe staple as a fancy one. I’ll wear this short-sleeve one with a turtleneck and tights underneath for now, while I dream of warmer days ahead where I’ll get to pair it with strappy sandals.
